Goodwill of the Great Plains is a non-profit organization that has a mission to build independence through employment, training and community support. They are a social enterprise that operates a successful retail thrift program to help fund the impactful work of the organization. Goodwill of the Great Plains began its work in Sioux City back in 1890. Since that time the organization has expanded to include a four-state service region and has seen rapid growth in the past decade. Goodwill's mission provides impactful workforce development and training for individuals in our community to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to experience purpose and independence through the power of work. Goodwill's Adult Day and Day Habilitation programs have seen tremendous growth since COVID. This new space will accommodate growth in a state-of-the-art facility. Highlights of the new facility include a main street which is the focal point of the building, specialty spaces such as an art & music room, sensory room, game lounge and learning kitchen. There is a full-size gym that will support all kinds of recreational and group gatherings, including future Goodwill Shoe Party events. Goodwill's Job Center will move across the street into this new facility. The new Mission Center will be open to the public during weekdays and with time be a space available for community gatherings and recreational activities. The facility will be certified as a net-zero facility using geothermal and solar to provide heating/cooling and electricity.
