Ribbon Cutting - The Warming Shelter

Date: May 1, 2023 Time: 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM
Event Description The Warming Shelter is celebrating their 10-year anniversary as well as their new extended operations from seasonal to 365 days a year.

Since 2013 they have provided 115,000 nights of shelter to men, women, and children facing homelessness in the Siouxland area. These numbers reflect limited seasonal operations during the months of November 1- April 30. Each winter season, they begin the race against time towards the daunting date of April 30. This date has represented despair, fear, and uncertainty amongst the homeless population. Year after year, The Warming Shelter's leaders and staff have yearned for the day that their operations would extend throughout the entirety of the year regardless of season. Unfortunately, with limited funding, that goal seemed to become further and further out of reach. They have concluded that some discomfort mixed with a tiny bit of risk, and a heaping pile of FAITH is the exact recipe that has allowed them to provide an incredible 115,000 nights of shelter to the ones who need it the most. This is also the recipe that will allow them to remain open 365 days a year! “If not now, then when?” has become their motto. They will now be able to bridge the gap and provide continued services to their guests. They anticipate that this will contribute to an increase in number of the homeless individuals and families in our community that are able to obtain and sustain permanent housing!
