Mar 2    Ribbon Cutting - Bruening Eye Specialists, Sunnybrook Center
The new Bruening Eye Specialists will hold a Ribbon Cutting with lunch following to celebrate the completion of their new clinic in Sunnybrook Center.  Bruening Eye Specialists will start providing ophthalmology services, treating eye diseases and providing surgical treatments at the new location beginning March 5th.

Representatives Chuck Holz  and Jacob Bossman will be our featured guests and will talk about their priorities for the session and give us the latest on the happenings within the Capitol.
 

Chuck Holz is serving his second term in the Iowa House.  He was elected by special election in November 2015.

Chuck grew up on a crop and livestock farm near Rippey, Iowa.  He graduated from East Greene Community School in Grand Junction, IA, and attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1976 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree.  From there, he moved to Le Mars, Iowa where he practiced mixed animal medicine for thirty-eight wonderful years.  In 2013, he sold his practice.

Chuck spent eighteen years on the Le Mars School Board, is a long time member of the Le Mars Rotary Club and a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ.  He, and his wife Pat, together have three sons; Joshua, Christopher and Daniel.  They also have three grandchildren.

Jacob Bossman is serving his first term in the Iowa House. He was elected by special election in December 2017.

Jacob is a graduate of Morningside College where he earned a degree in Economics. He served on the staff of U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley for over 12 years. Jacob is a longtime member of Morningside Lutheran Church. He currently serves on the Morningside College Alumni Board. He also coaches YMCA youth soccer and has volunteered for Siouxland Youth for Christ and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland's Every Classroom Counts program.

Jacob and his wife, Carmen, live in the Morningside area of Sioux City with their twin daughters.

Senator Rick Bertrand will be our guest speaker and will talk about the 2018 session as well as happenings in the Iowa State Legislature.
 
About Sen. Bertrand
Senator Rick Bertrand was born and raised on a small farm on the Northeast edge of Sioux City.  He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1993 where he studied economics and political science.  Senator Bertrand also earned his master's in organizational leadership from Bellevue University in the fall of 2016. Senator Bertrand and his wife, Tammy, were married in 1998 and are blessed with three children.
 
Senator Bertrand is an established entrepreneur and commercial developer at the local, national, and international level.

Chad uses his expertise to provide training/consulting to civilians in the area of surviving violence with an emphasis on surviving the threat posed by workplace/school violence and today's active killer. He will provide key points of his S.A.V.E. training.
About Chad
Chad is a 23 year veteran of Law Enforcement.  In August 2016 he retired from the Sioux City, IA police department to devote his full time to the S.A.V.E. Yourself program. At the time of his retirement he was assigned to patrol, the hostage negotiation unit, field training officer, Honor Guard member and Critical Incident Stress Management team. He developed the "S.A.V.E. Yourself" program and is a certified instructor in Rapid Response to active shooter, Conflict Resolution, Tactical Communication and DARE. Chad was also previously assigned as the police department's school resource officer at a Sioux City high school with over 1,200 students and 200 staff members.
