Bishop John E. Keehner and the Sioux City Cathedral Parish are hosting a White Mass Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Epiphany to honor and pray for active and retired health care workers. A reception will follow in the Cathedral Hall.
Father David Esquiliano, rector of the Cathedral, explained the name White Mass refers to the white lab coats traditionally worn by those working in the health care industry.
Those working in health care of all faith backgrounds are encouraged to attend the Mass and the reception.
“As Christians, we can pray for one another,” Father Esquiliano explained. “All can appreciate the critical work of healing offered by those working in the health care field. Especially following the difficult years when the COVID-19 pandemic was at its height, those providers were at the front lines, even putting themselves in harm’s way to care for the sick.”
The bishop and Cathedral Parish will also host a Red Mass on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 5:30 p.m. for lawmakers and those who work in the legal field.
