Work is scheduled to begin at the site of Siouxland Habitat’s first twin home. To kick off this new venture, Habitat will host an official groundbreaking at 9 a.m., Friday, April 23 at 3299 Parkview Blvd, in Sioux City.

Pastor Del Olivier will officiate. The public is invited to attend this uplifting event as both partner families turn over spades of dirt in the area that will be the site of their new homes. The future homeowners will be responsible for completing hundreds of hours of sweat-equity into the building of their homes along with saving for a down payment, and paying a monthly mortgage and escrow.

Siouxland Habitat builds and sells homes in partnership with low-and moderate-income families who are willing to work hard to become homeowners. “Our homeownership program empowers working individuals and families to build and buy their own homes. We partner with them every step of the way, and provide the education and support needed to become successful homeowners”, said Kevin McCormick, Family Services Coordinator.

“Our partner family homeowners, with the help of Habitat, volunteers, and donors, achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance needed to shape a better tomorrow for themselves and their families. Through our home building program we empower people to help themselves”, stated Anne Holmes, Executive Director of Siouxland Habitat for Humanity.

Siouxland Habitat’s goal of four home builds in 2021 is taking shape. The Sioux City houses are joined by a single family dwelling currently underway in Hull and construction plans for an additional home in Hawarden.
Siouxland Habitat for Humanity, founded in 1992, is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International – a Christian housing ministry. Families and individuals in need of a hand-up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes and pay an affordable mortgage. Through shelter, we empower.
