WHO WE ARE
The Siouxland Foster Closet is a 501c3 non-profit organization in Sioux City. We aim to show God’s
love by providing clothing and necessities to children in foster care and out-of-home placement in the
Siouxland area free of charge. We operate a storefront with a boutique-retail feel, allowing children
the dignity of shopping for clothing of their own choosing which they can feel good wearing. In 2022
we helped children more than 250 times, children who often arrived in placement with nothing of
their own. For more information about the impact we have had and our vision for the future, see our
2021 Impact Report online at: https://siouxlandfostercloset.square.site/impact-report.
WHAT WE NEED
We currently operate out of a 2,000 sq ft storefront in the Indian Hills Shopping Center and need to
vacate our space by December 31, 2022. We need a new space to house our retail-style shop, that is
at least the same square footage as our current space. The ideal location would be similar to Indian
Hills: out of the way, in a low-traffic area, and in a safe location. We are a new nonprofit, and need a
property owner who believes in our cause and is willing to support our ministry while we grow. Our
budget is approximately $300 per month for a lease, and we ask that a property owner be willing to
donate the remainder of their asking lease for a tax-write off. We need a minimum three-year lease,
which would allow us to focus our efforts on building our donor base and increasing our fundraising
efforts, with the goal of becoming financially independent.
OUR HISTORY
The Siouxland Foster Closet has always been completely volunteer managed and operated. SLFC was
founded as a ministry under Sunnybrook Church in 2018 by Rochelle Pfeifer with the help of two
foster parents. Those foster parents quickly were pulled away by other commitments, and Rochelle
operated the Foster Closet with the assistance of a few intermittent volunteers through 2019 and into
2020, when COVID hit.
In 2021 a few consistent and dedicated volunteers emerged and efforts were put into place to create
a board and become a nonprofit organization. SLFC officially became a non-profit in October 2021. We
have gained a tremendous amount of recognition and many one-time supporters in the last year.
Now, with a newly elected board (summer of 2022), a solid volunteer base, and a lot of passion for
our cause, we believe that God will guide our steps into a successful future.
